Since the begining of February, dusty weather has prevailed over the Arabian Peninsulua due to gusty winds from the low pressure over northern Arabia. A strong sand storm formed on Wednesday Feb 2nd over KSA, with blinding visibility and strong winds.
There will be bouts of rain over northern Arabia starting from Jan 30 and continuing to Feb 2. Monday Jan 30, 2012: A long-wave upper air trough digs over the Mediterranean, with widespread rainfall over much of Jordan, northern Egypt including Sina’a, Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine. Colder air will start impacting the Arabian Peninsulua starting late Friday Jan 20th, as a surface high pressure trails behind an upper low and its associated cold front over southwest Asia. Three weather parameters to highlight: Colder Air, Winds, and Rain. Synoptic weather: After delivering rain to parts of the Mediterranean and northten Egypt, A mid-level low pressure is expected to move eastward towards southwestern Asian countries of Iran and afghanistan. Back to square one? After a wet and cool end for November for much of northern and mid Arabian countries, December started dry with cooler-than-normal temperatures over much of Arabia except for the UAE and Oman where the warm water of the gulf tends to moderate the air. In fact, Kuwait recorded a minimum temperature of 1C on Dec 7. Similar near-zero or even sub-zero temperatures have been common over central and northern KSA as well over the last few days.
