A sunny start for Winter

The begining of December marks the start of meteorological winter (Dec, Jan, Feb) in the northern hemisphere. Those are the coldest months of the year. However, astronomical winter starts on Dec 22/23 when sun’s direct rays are farthest away from tropics of cancer. However, real-feel winter in terms of the lowest seasonal temperatures more closely follows the calendar months of Dec, Jan, and Feb. Late winter thundershowers are expected to affect parts of Saudi Arabia, northern Arabian Gulf, and Kuwait during the next 48 hours. Showers will also impact the Mediterranean, Iraq, and western Iran. Very warm with chance of an odd shower in the UAE between Saturday and Tuesday. Chance of a shower in northern UAE. cooler winds arrive by Wendesday March 2nd. Showers and thunderstorms are also likely to affect southeastern Iran and southwestern Pakistan during the first 2 days of Pakistan.

Westerly cool winds resulted in below-average day-time temperatures in the UAE during the last few days. While temperaturs remained in the late teens during night-time over the coastal areas, the fresh westerly winds helped lower the real-feel temperature. In interior desert areas of the UAE, minimum temperatures plunged to as low as 4c and 5c in Al Shiweb and AlFoah. Elsewhere in the gulf, Kuwait recorded daily minimum temperaturs of 1-3c for the last three days. Cooler weather has also affected Bahrain, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Feb 8-9: A few showers UAE weather details: partly cloudy to mostly cloudy conditions are expected on Feb 9th with scatterred light showers affecting northern/northeastern UAE. A few scatterred rain showers (sometimes thundery), with periods of clouds and sunshine affected the Arabian Gulf countries of Kuwait, Bahrain, , parts of Saudi Arabia (central, western Red Sea coast, and Arabian Gulf coast) on Feb 8th. The chance of widespread rain is not high as rain showers are likely to be isolated to scatterred. However, that doesn’t rule out the possibilty for some thunderstorms.
