Some rain showers and scaterred thunderstorms are affecting central and Eastern Saudi Arabia along the Arabian Gulf. This is in response to the formation of frontal boundary that will later convert into a weak cold front as a mid-upper low moves from the Midetteranean. It will generate some thundershowers while it slowly drifts southeastward and impact other Saudi Arabia cities along the Arabian Gulf coastlines. It might also bring chances of showers over Bahrain and Qatar, otherwise the front will dry up and end up bringing cooler weather on Saturday to mid sections of the Gulf before bring cooler air  [ Read More ]

A sunny start for Winter

It seems January will bring “some” ups and downs to the weather of the Arabian Peninsula, after a very quiet and repititve December. The Mediterranean countires will also witness some weather changes. Some showers, and some in unusual places A few isolated thundershowers could affect parts of Saudi Arabia between late Saturday Jan 7 and early Monday Jan 9. The highest chance, although small, is over Jeddah and central parts of central Saudi Arabia that might reach Kuwait and upper parts of the Arabian Gulf. The first week of Jan 2012 brings almost the same weather. January is typically the coolest month of the year. Aside from the duststorm and southerly winds that hit Kuwait today, this week’s weather is going to be essentially the same as much of Dec 2011. But a slight warming is expected in the gulf countries on Monday before gusty and cool northwesterly winds arrive over the gulf starting Tuesday with windy conditions expected in Bahrain, Qatar, and the UAE by Wednesday. The Mediterranean continues to be receiving low pressures. This dry trend could continue well into mid January.

Back to square one? After a wet and cool end for November for much of northern and mid Arabian countries, December started dry with cooler-than-normal temperatures over much of Arabia except for the UAE and Oman where the warm water of the gulf tends to moderate the air. In fact, Kuwait recorded a minimum temperature of 1C on Dec 7. Similar near-zero or even sub-zero temperatures have been common over central and northern KSA as well over the last few days.
