A spectacular and deep low pressure is expected to batter the Mediterranean countries on Friday and Saturday Feb 17 & 18, 2012. A deep upper low coupled with a deep surface low (around 995 mb) will be centered over northeastern Mediterranean sea on Friday Feb 17th. High winds will accompany the low, with wind gusts reaching between 50 and 100 km/hr over different parts of Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Jordan. High winds could cause dusty conditions in Egypt and desert areas of Jordan. There will be bouts of rain over northern Arabia starting from Jan 30 and continuing to Feb 2. Monday Jan 30, 2012: A long-wave upper air trough digs over the Mediterranean, with widespread rainfall over much of Jordan, northern Egypt including Sina’a, Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine. Colder air will start impacting the Arabian Peninsulua starting late Friday Jan 20th, as a surface high pressure trails behind an upper low and its associated cold front over southwest Asia. Three weather parameters to highlight: Colder Air, Winds, and Rain. Synoptic weather: After delivering rain to parts of the Mediterranean and northten Egypt, A mid-level low pressure is expected to move eastward towards southwestern Asian countries of Iran and afghanistan. Some rain showers and scaterred thunderstorms are affecting central and Eastern Saudi Arabia along the Arabian Gulf. This is in response to the formation of frontal boundary that will later convert into a weak cold front as a mid-upper low moves from the Midetteranean. It will generate some thundershowers while it slowly drifts southeastward and impact other Saudi Arabia cities along the Arabian Gulf coastlines.
