Back to square one? After a wet and cool end for November for much of northern and mid Arabian countries, December started dry with cooler-than-normal temperatures over much of Arabia except for the UAE and Oman where the warm water of the gulf tends to moderate the air. In fact, Kuwait recorded a minimum temperature of 1C on Dec 7. Similar near-zero or even sub-zero temperatures have been common over central and northern KSA as well over the last few days. A sunny start for Winter

The begining of December marks the start of meteorological winter (Dec, Jan, Feb) in the northern hemisphere. Those are the coldest months of the year. However, astronomical winter starts on Dec 22/23 when sun’s direct rays are farthest away from tropics of cancer. However, real-feel winter in terms of the lowest seasonal temperatures more closely follows the calendar months of Dec, Jan, and Feb. Autumn is ending with considerable rainfall for central Saudi Arabia as a highly curved upper air low forms over northern Arabian Peninsula. Rain will fall starting Monday Nov 28 over central and eastern Saudi Arabia and might exceed 25mm in some places. The rain system will move to Bahrain and Qatar by Tuesday and Wednesday. Although Kuwait might get some showers, it will get cooler along with much of northen Arabia. Rainfall amounts average 25mm over a large section of KSA, with some areas nearing 50mm. Rain showers over Bahrain and Mid Arabian Gulf Nov 26.

Some showers will form again on Nov 26-27 over mid and eastern Gulf. A weak cold front delivered thundershowers from Nov 21-24 to Kuwait, Arabian Gulf coasts of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, parts of Qatar, islands of the UAE, and northern Oman. Nov 26 – 27: Cloudy weather will continue with isolated showers over parts of mid and eastern Arabian Gulf. Those showers might reach coastlines of Bahrain, Qatar, and western UAE.
