See a video of satellite images of the dust and sandstorms that affected KSA and the UAE. The video shows special modified infrared images taken by EUMETSAT, and can detect clouds (dark red and orange) and sand/dust (pink). The video shows the evolution of a low pressure and frontogenesis on Feb 25. As the surface low deepened, winds accelerated towards the centre of the low. Sea level pressure and surface winds at 12GMT on Feb 25. areas located eastward of the surface low will experience southerly dusty winds.

A fast-moving and tricky low pressure system is headed towards parts of the Arabian Peninsulua with various weather conditions from gusty winds, dusty conditions, clouds, rain, and thunderstorms. Different impacts over different countries. Periods of rain seem likely in Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. The probability of rain is moderate in Qatar and Bahrain, while it is low in Oman and the UAE, except for moderate chance in extreme northern areas north of Ras al Khaymah (UAE) and Khassab (Oman). During the next 2-3 weeks, the atmosphere is gearing up for sharper changes in temperatures. There will be periods of increasing temperatures followed by periodic cooling. This is very much normal for March, but this pattern is setting up early this year. For the Arabian Peninsulia, the period from 9t to 10th Feb will see some warming, before slight cooling arriving by Feb 10th and 11th. Sand and dust, in purple color, can be seen over KSA and Iraq.

Since the begining of February, dusty weather has prevailed over the Arabian Peninsulua due to gusty winds from the low pressure over northern Arabia. A strong sand storm formed on Wednesday Feb 2nd over KSA, with blinding visibility and strong winds.
