During the next 2-3 weeks, the atmosphere is gearing up for sharper changes in temperatures. There will be periods of increasing temperatures followed by periodic cooling. This is very much normal for March, but this pattern is setting up early this year. For the Arabian Peninsulia, the period from 9t to 10th Feb will see some warming, before slight cooling arriving by Feb 10th and 11th. Sand and dust, in purple color, can be seen over KSA and Iraq.

Since the begining of February, dusty weather has prevailed over the Arabian Peninsulua due to gusty winds from the low pressure over northern Arabia. A strong sand storm formed on Wednesday Feb 2nd over KSA, with blinding visibility and strong winds.

Expected rainfall from Jan 29 to Feb 2, 2012

There will be bouts of rain over northern Arabia starting from Jan 30 and continuing to Feb 2. Monday Jan 30, 2012: A long-wave upper air trough digs over the Mediterranean, with widespread rainfall over much of Jordan, northern Egypt including Sina’a, Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine. This time rain is likely to fall over interior areas that are usually dry. Tuesday Jan 31, 2012: Rain is expected to extend to northern half of Iraq and western Iran. The recent cold wave that has started on Jan 20 ended as temperatures plunged to sub-zero levels in Kuwait and KSA. Temperatures are expected to rise to mid 20s during the next few days especially between Jan 27 and Jan 29. A slight fall in temperature is expected by early next week. The recent cold wave brough gusty cool winds over the Arabian Gulf, especially off the UAE coastlines.
