See a video of satellite images of the dust and sandstorms that affected KSA and the UAE. The video shows special modified infrared images taken by EUMETSAT, and can detect clouds (dark red and orange) and sand/dust (pink). The video shows the evolution of a low pressure and frontogenesis on Feb 25. As the surface low deepened, winds accelerated towards the centre of the low. Strong winds flowing northward from southern to central KSA, before being pushed eastward by the cold front. The dust has shifted to the gulf of Oman after leaving the UAE. The low pressure also brought rain and thunderstorms to KSA and Kuwait.

Wow looks intense! Is it the area that turns pink in the last few seconds?

  2. Meteo.ae says:

    Yes Alya
The pink area at the end of the video. The storm was bigger yesterday over ksa.

  3. Alya says:

    Was the wind speed higher?

  4. Meteo.ae says:

It was higher because it was a sandstorm there, not a duststorm. It was that thick RED wall-like sand.
