Mediterranean countries (mainly Jordan, Syria, and Palestine) received some unusual early-season rainfall on Wednesday Sep 22, 2010. This marks the first westerly wave of weather disturbances that affect the region from autumn to spring. While the rain was not widespread, there were scaterred thunderstorms that brought heavy bursts of rain. According to Mohammed Al-Shaker (from Jordanweather.Jo), the thunderstorms caused high winds that uprooted trees and resulted in sandstorms that affected Amman airport. As we head into late September, some might have already noticed a slight improvement in temperature, especially overnight. If you haven’t, you will soon notice that once October starts. Granted, the worst of summer is over, but heat itself is yet to end. However, a cooling trend should take over soon. Around September 22/23 , autumn equinox takes place in the northern hemisphere, bringing nights and days that are equally long.
