A tropical depression has formed in the Arabian Sea and is being monitored for potential tropical development.
May 29, 2010:
There is an increased confidence that a tropical storm might form in the Arabian Sea during the next 5 days. More details later
May 28, 2010
There are hints from at least a couple of models (GFS and ECMWF) that the Arabian Sea might produce a tropical storm or even a cyclone in southeast Arabian Sea! The storm is shown to move northwest.
A majority of the models seemed to suggest that the system could be declared a cyclone by June 2 over east-central Arabian Sea (thehindubusinessline)
It is a wait game. We need to wait and see how persistent weather forecasts and models remain with regard to such a forecast. We also need to wait and see whether a low pressure systems starts organizing in SE Arabian Sea on or around May 30-31, 2010. The Arabian Sea often produces tropical storms, but is not considered very active when it comes to cyclones and tropical storms. Storms there are few and often weak and short-lived. However, strong storms do develop, albeit infrequently.
All countries along the shores of the Arabian Sea need to keep an eye on the potential for a cyclonic development during the next 5 to 7 days and subsequently the track it might take.

according to my prediction it will land in pakistan near karachi it could become a catogary 3 storm near landing else on arabiam sea it will reach to catagory 4 or 5
probability of 90% it will land near balochistan or sindh or least in gujrat!!!!
Hi
The storm might actually attain a cyclone status during the next 48 hours. We shall see where it hits although there are indications it might affect Pakistan.
I knew about this storm since mid may….. it will hit pak-indo bordee… under that influence karachi and coastal areas of pak and Gujarat(india) province are likely or will receive very heavy rains with strong WINDSTORMS and thunder.. My answer to rizvan is that the cyclone will only remain cyclonic storm and will not attain more strengh… However this will be a very wet monsoon for karachi
It will soon be named cyclone Phet. And there are forecasts that it might strengthen into a category 2 cyclone. But the exact path of the eye of the cyclone is not clear. It could be anywhere from karachi to Gujarat. The area around the eye packs the strongest winds. However, this storm is large and effects will reach far areas
Last Guno happened 5th june in Oman , and now we are also approching 5th june ?
is 5 th june Oman cyclone day ?
Ahmed – in your opinion are still expecting severe rains here in Oman?
Hi
While there are doubts whether it will enter Oman east coast or not, and even if stays offshore, it will come very close to the coast. And clouds extending from the cyclone might reach easternmost Oman bringing heavy rains and strong winds. But, a direct hit to Oman is also a possible scenario. Where are you located?
What are the odds of Phet hitting Karachi and in what capacity it is likely to hit Karachi ?
It might hit Pakistan as a weak tropical storm on Jun 7th

Is there any chance of next cyclone after phet in arbian sea?
Hi,
The tropics are still active, and June is part of the cyclone season. There are signs of instability in the Arabian Sea during the next few weeks. We shall wait and see.
Yes becouse i saw the models and sattelites indicates the clouds will reach at central and east arbian sea what abt your prediction?
hi guys there is a cyclone maybe coming in oman in 17/06/2010 ~!!!
the name is jiri !!!
Hi Ali,
Too early to tell. We will see what happens next week. The tropics are still active, and June is part of the cyclone season. There are signs of instability in the Arabian Sea during the next few weeks
i think this is monsoon activity in central parts of arbian sea may be there is chance of only low pressure not depression?
Demon,
Since we are in June, the chance of depressions/cyclones is there.
We could end up having a weak low pressure, or a cyclone, or even nothing! Not all computer models are in agreement as of now, but I still think we need to monitor how things develop during the next 5 days. And even if something develops, the track of the storm is another puzzle by itself
Hi all
There are stronger signs of tropical storm development next week. Stay tuned for updates.
Oh Really, what u think where it will be developed?
Hi
I posted a new story. Go to my homepage. It will be used to follow the prospects of another tropical development in addition to a link to accuweather news story.
yes i saw some moments before.and nice infotmation how much chances of developing of depression,is there low pressure formed?
No depression or storm yet. Right now it is an area of low pressure which has the potential to intensify during the next several days.
ok..it means there is little chances,
