Well, the first rain of the season in the mediterranean countries (see previous blog entry) was not widespread. Only Syria got meaningful rains (poor forecast by the GFS model). However, the city of Aleppo in Syria received very heavy rainfall from a thunderstorm on Sep 27. (rainfall around 150mm)

By looking at the meteogram of Aleppo, we can see that a modetate thunderstorm hit Aleppo at 7AM GMT with temperatures dropping from 21 to 17c. Rainfall totals indicated by wunderground is 126mm ??? Click here for wunderground recorded weather for Aleppo
The World Meteorological Organization listed Aleppo in their page of heavy rain events. In fact, WMO reported rain up to 151.9 mm in 24 hours. That’s really big. It’s like the amount of rain that you get in a good winter as a whole here in the UAE.
