Did you like this winter in the UAE?!

Rain and storm clouds deprating Dubai, UAE on Mar 2nd, 2010 (from GulfNews.com)

Winter is really gone I guess, but it didn’t depart before sending more rain & storm clouds. The photo above best explains how mother nature can deliver wild changing weather, and definetely chaging seasons as well. While Spring has started in the UAE, the window of rain continues until early April. But with increasing temperature, winter has become shorter in the UAE. Considering that past average high in March is 25c in Dubai, we are now recording average highs of around 30c or more in March over the last few years.

What to expect next: increasing temperature with a small chance of low pressure systems making a comeback during Spring. In 2009, storms and heavy rain affected the UAE between Mar 25 and Apr 10th. I hope history repeats itself.

How do I rate this winter?! It has certainly been one of the warmest winters I have experienced in the UAE. But there were several rain events that saved this winter from being a bad one I guess.

What do you think about this winter?!

I love to read the coments on this website. I loved the rain this season.

Is there any possibility of further rain this year?

  • Well I think this winter was way too warm.I think its because of the “Global warming” but this “warm winter” will be remember for long long time.Cya Mr winter next year.

  • yes im also expriencing this…only shamal wind brought some cold wave othrwise i hvnt seen cold weathr from past 3 years i guess..its all because of Global warming…now im waiting for the next spell of prolong weathr, like which we saw last year..but weather patterns shows that…it wont rain…but if God will…anything can happen

Climatologicly speaking, the possibility is there of course. March is on average the 2nd wettest month in the UAE. rain is possible even during April. And there have been instances of severe weather during April such as in 2003. Last year we had several thunderstorms and heavy rain between Mar 25 and Apr 10 after a warm start to March.
But with the current pattern I’m seeing right now, a high pressure is dominating the region and may start moving out during the last 10 days of March which opens the chance again for low pressure systems to affect the region. However, the chance is not that high.

  • Supprised to see so many clouds over UAE! Here in the UK the winter was much colder. The coldest since 1978, hopefully colder again next winter! This weather blog is fantastic, I have bookmarked this blog.

    Hi Mathew,

This winter in Europe was exceptionally cold and snowy. I guess in the UAE it doesn’t rain that often, but When it does it pours!

I think I need to buy a weather station!
