Active weather in the UAE Dec 8-9, 2009

The low pressure system affecting the Arabian Gulf, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain will move eastward during the next 48 hours. It will develop a cold front that will move and pass over the UAE sometime around midnight on Wednesday. So this an overview of expected weather events Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tuesday (Day):
Southerly winds (later southwesterly) will start picking up speed and may hit 50 km/hr (with higher gusts possible especially in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain and other open areas). Those winds will probably cause sand/duststorms in open area as those winds kick up sand/dust from the Empty Quarter. It will be very warm as temperatures could reach 32 or 33c.

However, all the coastal areas lying on the Arabian Gulf have a chance of precipitation. Models vary n terms of rainfall amount. The best scenario is 10mm on average. The worst scenario is cloudy but dry conditions. Cooler air starts affecting the UAE.
