Snow covers Jees mountain Jan 2009

Snow covers Jees mountain Jan 2009 (Gulfnews)

Well, the unusually low freezing level resulted in snow falling on the top of Jees mountain (1,737m) in Ras Al Khaymah in northernmost UAE. This is not the 1st time it snows there, but this is the heaviest snow cover ever recorded. Snow accumulations of 20cm have been reported as temperature dipped to -3c on Friday night and struggled to go above 1c on Saturday. The cold front that has swept across the UAE on Friday evening and early Saturday has brought widespread moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms (with hail) affecting many areas.
